This Privacy Policy explains how Caption Obvious ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our AI-powered video captioning service at caption-obvious.com.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and profile image from your Google account. This is used to create and manage your Caption Obvious account.
Video content
When you upload a video, it is stored temporarily on our servers (Amazon S3, EU region) for processing. Videos are used solely to generate captions and are deleted after processing is complete and you have downloaded your result. Failed or abandoned uploads are automatically cleaned up after 7 days.
Payment information
Credit purchases are processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details. We retain Stripe transaction IDs for bookkeeping purposes.
Usage data
We collect basic usage data such as project history, credit transactions, and caption preferences (language, style settings) to provide and improve the service.
How we use your data
Your data is used to:
- Provide the captioning service you requested
- Process payments and manage your credit balance
- Send service-related emails (e.g., reminders, updates)
- Monitor and fix errors in the service
- Measure advertising effectiveness through conversion tracking
We do not use your videos or captions to train AI models. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Third-party services
To deliver the service, your data may be shared with the following third-party providers:
- Google — Authentication (OAuth sign-in) and advertising conversion tracking (Google Ads)
- Stripe — Payment processing
- Third-party AI providers — Speech-to-text transcription and caption refinement
- Amazon Web Services — Video storage and processing infrastructure, hosted in the EU
We also use additional service providers for infrastructure, monitoring, and email delivery. Each provider processes data in accordance with their own privacy policies, and we only share the minimum data necessary for them to perform their function.
Cookies and tracking
We use essential cookies to manage your authentication session. These are httpOnly cookies required for the service to function and cannot be disabled. We also use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. This may set third-party cookies from Google.
Data retention
Your account data (email, name, project history, captions) is retained for as long as your account is active. Uploaded videos are deleted after processing and download. Failed uploads are removed after 7 days. If you request account deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days.
Data security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication tokens, and access-controlled cloud infrastructure. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. You may also request a copy of the data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@caption-obvious.com.
Children's privacy
Caption Obvious is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
